Jack D. Daniels, 50, Poe Asphalt foreman
Jack D. Daniels, construction foreman for Poe Asphalt at Clarkston since 1982, died of cancer Saturday morning at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center at Lewiston. Daniels, 50, had been ill since September.
Daniels was active in the community and served as chairman of the Lewiston Orchards Blossom Festival for many years. He had been a member of the city of Lewiston Street Commission and vice chairman of the American Legion Baseball Committee.
He also was a member of the University of Idaho Vandal Boosters and a former member of the Lewiston Elks Lodge. He was a lifetime member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10043 and a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 690.
He was born Aug. 3, 1936, at Cavendish Idaho, to Jess D. and Juanita Daniels. He attended Cavendish grade schools and graduated from Orofino High School in 1953.
From 1954 to 1956, Daniels served with the U.S. Army in Germany. After his discharge from service, he returned to Orofino and worked as a meat cutter at Glenwood Market.
In 1959, Daniels moved to Lewiston and was employed by Schilling Dist. Co. until 1967. He worked for Lewiston Premix for a time and was manager at Atlas Sand and Rock from 1968 to 1982. He had been employed by Poe Asphalt since 1982.
He married Larraine Orrison April 7, 1959, at Coeur d'Alene. She died Oct. 31, 1962. He married Marion Howerton at Coeur d'Alene in January 1966 and they later divorced.
Survivors include his mother, Juanita Daniels of Lewiston; three daughters, Janice M. Frisbey and Diana S. Daniels, both of Lewiston, and Lee Ann Daniels of Richland; a son, James L. Daniels of Dallas, Texas; three brothers, Charles R. Daniels of Lewiston, Lyle E. Daniels of Clarkston and Richard T. Daniels of Missoula, Mont.; and one granddaughter.
A daughter, Lorraine Daniels died at birth.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston with members of the VFW Post No. 10043 officiating. Malcom's Brower-Wann Memorial Chapel at Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests any memorials be contributions to the American Cancer Society or the VFW Post No. 10043 Building Fund.
